Laguna Niguel has approximately 64,000 residents and was established in 1959 and became incorporated in 1989. Approximately one third of the land in Laguna Niguel is designated as open space preserving its natural surroundings.

Attractions in the city include Salt Creek and Strands Beach parks, a 20,000 square foot skate park, the Aliso/Wood Canyons Regional Park, Badlands Park and Laguna Niguel Regional Park. There are many upscale neighborhoods including Bear Brand Ranch, Coronado Pointe, Ocean Ranch, and Monarch Point Estate (among others). Many of these neighborhoods are located within one mile of the Pacific Ocean.
